Sunday, February 3, 2008Whenever a special occasion comes around the corner , there is always this rush among the ordinary folks like us as we would always find ourselves lacking things here and there . Especially during Chinese New Year when it is required of us , as Chinese , to don on new clothes and shoes . But I find this frenzy very ridiculous . Why bother buying new clothes just for CNY ? Why can't we CONTINUE to buy new clothes for all our other occasions (eg: Halloween , Christmas) ? Then again , I guess I cannot blame my fellow Chinese Singaporeans for doing so because it is the shopowners who do up their shops so nicely that we cannot help but fall into the CNY mood a WHOLE month before it actually arrives . Oh well . There goes our wallets . ):
Happy girl and I spent the entire Saturday afternoon sauntering around the streets of Orchard Road in a bid to look for her beau's and Mrs. Tee Ping's presents . After this whole afternoon , I have finally come to a conclusion that buying gifts for others without any clue as to what they really , really want , can take a toll on both our brains and feet . We racked our brains just to figure out what to get Mrs. Tee Ping . Our original plan was to get her a pair of shades but we decided against our initial plan because we didn't know what shape and size would complement her very round face best ): . Disheartened , we continued ambling around town , taking our own sweet time , until we went into Surfer Girl where we saw this sweet little purse sitting innocently on a display shelf . It was so pink ( a colour that Mrs. Tee Ping would love ) , floral and affordable that Happy Girl and I couldn't just leave it there and walk out of the shop without it . So , as you might have guessed , we got it for her ! YAY . With this mission accomplished , we set off to look for someone's present . This wasn't as difficult as the first task because she already had something in mind for him . In case he might be reading this post , I won't be disclosing the present's identity for now . (: Dream on , Happy Girl's Bf !
After all that shopping , sore blisters started to develop on my feet where the straps of my heels were located at . Bloody hell . I cursed my torturous high-heels and lamented on the harsh reality that my skin was too delicate to handle heels . ): Then Happy Girl did something that really touched me and made my day - can't spill either , sorry ): . With my feet covered in plasters , we walked ( Well , SHE walked while I hobbled ) to Heeren . We didn't stay there for long because she had to go for her tuition and carry out her responsbility as a good girlfriend . He had better be grateful (: . Not long after she left , NNSK came to meet me and "saved" my feet by giving me a loan so that I could get a pair of flats , which had a nice , feminine , little brooch on its straps . Thank you , NNSK ! He got himself a top for CNY ( See , even he , my boyfriend who has no interest in retail therapy (to my dismay) can fall victim to the CNY requirements ! Shops these days are so enticing , alluring , seductive , whatever .) and a packet of mints for me , probably because I told him how nice they would look if I ACTUALLY OWNED THEM . Hehe * grins slyly * .
At 630 , we met up with my mother and brother to have dinner at Aji-tei ( I think that's what it's called . Woops .) . Next , we carried our heavy tummies to Chinatown . It was crazyyyy , I tell you . There were so many people wanting to experience the pre-CNY mood . So much that we had to push around just to get to one part of the narrow street to another . No one dared to stop and browse through any of the shops , except for me , who got attracted to the shiniest of things that night . What IS wrong with me ? There was also this incident which NNSK and I found very laughable . Wanting to go up to the second level , we climbed up a stationary escalator . Whilst doing so , THE ESCALATOR STARTED MOVING . Unfortunately , it didn't move in a direction that was to our favour . It moved downwards -.- . The uncaring people who chose to take the stairs began pointing at the people who were on the escalator(ie: US) and making snide comments on how foolish we were . Sour grapes . At least we managed to get ON the escalator .

(Thinking of going to Chinatown ?)
This week :
The highlight of this week has definitely got to be the day when NNSK and I made our very own bowl of "爱心 noodles" at his place . Thanks to his mother , our noodles comprised of noodles (DUH !) , meatballs , crabsticks and minced meat . I daresay that I was the one who did the cooking while NNSK did all the eating . -.- .

( There's the mince meat )

(NNSK - caught in the act !)
